I wasn't joking, I was just having a general rant against the modern tendency to use the totally redundant prefix (pre-) which adds nothing to the meaning. As to Tampax, I am not really qualified to venture an opinion, though I do remember as a boy being sent by my mother to the corner shop with a half crown wrapped up in a note with instructions to just hand it over to the lady unopened. Having shopped for my mother from a very early age I was offended by the idea that she might have thought that I couldn't read the list so I opened it, took out the half crown and marched into the shop saying in a loud voice, "Packet of Dr White's, please".
