I joined in this thread with genuine interest and am puzzled as to why I have been called abusive? Have I been out of order here?

Must admit I did not see this thread until now.
My own view is because mobility scooters are so slow on the roads and (through no fault of the genuine users) can cause problems, the fewer there are the better and they should be reserved only for those who genuinely need them.
I also think users should be tested before using them. A couple or so years ago I turned into a one way system near where I lived and nearly went head-on into a mobility scooter coming towards me in the middle of the road. What the driver didn't call me was no body's business. As far as he was concerned he was in the right.
(I wonder where AOG lives?)

There's a big difference, Mike, between displaying political bias in leader articles (which is perfectly acceptable) and 'bending' actual news coverage because of it.
While no newspaper (or indeed, broadcaster) is ever without fault, both The Times[i and [i]The Independent] still manage to keep a certain amount of distance between the content of their leader articles and the way that they cover actual news. (Yes, you really did find me saying something positive about a News International publication there!)
