my friend asked me if it went out during runs -- Ithought it probably did and it was relit+Is this right?

It is rainproof so it will not go out in wet weather. I think they keep the flame in a lantern overnight and relight the torch the following day. If you go on the BBC website and click on the 2012 Olympic link, it tells you all about it.

the flame is always lit,it is kept alight in a davy lamp overnight

It was tested in a wind tunnel so it should be ok

I seem to remember it went out in Athens during rehearsals but not since then.
