Was a phrase I would have loved to have uttered as a child. Sadly, my parents could not afford one but I did learn to ride a bike on my friends Raleigh Chopper.

Sad then that the designer of probably the most iconic looking bicycle from the 70's has died.

I am not an authority on choppers but a 'departed' friend of mine was a top class road 'time trial' cyclist. What I cannot now understand is some folk reckon that he left his best bike at home when he went riding. !!

Ron.
Started of with a Budgie, then moved up to a Tomahawk before getting a second hand Chopper, cost my dad £10 and was a pile of junk when we got it, took ages for him to 'restore' it and paint it maroon.

Never forgot my first proper go on it and the excitement of actually having a gearstick on a bike, set off and got some speed up, went to change gear and the gears were seized up :o(
I had a Budgie as well and I loved it. My parents then bought me a more 'grown-up' bike and sold my beloved Budgie to a family across the road. Without my permission! I was gutted. But I pretended to love the new bike anyway, so as not to upset them.
