the fact that he had the balls to claim he was moving house and ferrying individual cutlery items up his sleeves is bad enough

but the fact they after having admitted he had them for protection - they then accept his moving story, is beyond comprehension!

the officers who apprehended him must be furious - it makes a mockery of their work.

chas I think that is just politician speak, have you ever read of a knife carrier going to jail?
Quite often read in the local rag of thugs being nicked for carrying knives but they all come from broken homes or have a drink/drugs problem, so are let off with comm service never sent down.

There's always the corner cases where a judge needs the discretion

This instance does sound pretty strange - that should make us think that theres something we don't know - You can't make a proper judgement based of a couple of hundred words in a newspaper
