What do you think of the news this morning that they are going to build more power stations in the u.k. and our energy bills will be kept high in the future to pay for it? I thought i was hearing thinks this morning when it was on the radio this morning. They also said our energy bills are due to go up anyway. What again?

OG, The UK does import electricityfrom France. Because most of France's electricity come from nucler power stations there are times when it has more capacity than it needs so it is sold to the UK.
It's not just the cost of building nuclear power stations - the big thing is the enormous cost of decomissioning them.

That's why there have been no new nuclear power stations since Sizewell B - the government refused to underwrite the decomissioning cost
Didn't know that, jomifl. How long will these monstrosities last?Must admit I'm like a lot of people-we just take things like electricity etc for granted
Quinie, I used to work in the power industry, although I'm not an expert in it I have worked at many types of power plants including hydro, oil, coal, wind and nuclear. Hydro are the nicest, coal are the worst. Coal power stations discharge more radioactive substances than nuclear but it is kept quiet.

It is the only one I could find in a few minutes, there is much more on the web I'm sure.
Thanks, jomifl. Didn't fully understand all of it but got the gist. Have visited Didcot several times.
And disbanding Ofgem would be a good move too.
Didcot is one of the sites I used to work at, though mostly on the river around the cooling water discharge. There are/were some good pubs nearby.
