I wonder if anyone has done this, and what their experience has been? I seem to be pouring lots of money into BT coffers and I wondered how life would be without a BT line.

The variables are many - how many people you talk to regularly have access to Skype and would wish to use it inst4ad of a land line or mobile?
If you use your phone rarely to talk to one person who is up for Skype, then the saving will be worthwile - if you speak to loads of people and the drop-outs and absence os signals are a problem, then it's not worth the grief.
I only use Skype to communicate with the present Mrs Hughes while she is working abroad, but at home we use our land line or mobiles.

I don't have a landline and haven't had for at least 8 years. I use Skype for most of my calls, I have a Skype in number so people can call me on Skype from their landline or mobile at normal rates and I also have a special Skype phone that works exactly like a dect phone, that is not reliant on my pc being switched on.
Don't miss a landline.
I do have Virgin cable broadband though - every other ISP requires a landline.
