// Prime Minister David Cameron's former director of communications Andy Coulson has been detained by police investigating allegations of perjury.

Mr Coulson, 44, was detained at his home in the Dulwich area of London at 06:30 by seven officers from Strathclyde Police.

He has been held on suspicion of committing perjury at the trial of former MSP Tommy Sheridan in 2010. //

The Coulson appointment was one of Cameron's worst moves. It would be embarrassing if he was jailed after all the glowing things Cameron said about the fellow.

Is Cameron just an unlucky Prime Minister, or is his judgement fatally flawed?

Seven officers? They obviously thought he wasn't going to come quietly.
Hopefully they tasered his ass too, just to be on the safe side.
ludwig, it was the strathclyde police summer picnic trip.
gromit - i think the difficulty is that they all have some dodgy decsions/dealings - it's just your luck if you manage to hide them long enough to make your bucks and get out.
I think it shows one of two things:

1) He thought he had mates he could trust and couldn't.

2) Chronic cronism, showing impaired judgement and this is just a reflection on his appaling leader ship.

I choose 2 - no austerity for the rich.

It does sound as if they turned it into a bit of a jolly.
> a bit of a jolly

I'm guessing you're not up and about in Strathclyde at 06:30 very often...
the police often stage massively over-enthusiastic arrests, but it's usually for the benefit of journalists they've tipped off (in return for the usual favourable mentions, bungs, cups of tea etc). So they probably just did it while arresting Coulson for old time's sake. May karma bite him on the bum.

Cameron is a former PR man, so it's not surprising that at least part of his mindset is "what will look good?" rather than "what will work?" Hiring Coulson was a terrible mistake.
Murdoch will probably be the cause of Call Me Dave's downfall.

Read the question Mark. It was a jolly boys outing down to London.
D'oh!
I take it from all this he is guilty then, is everyone arrested by Pold guilty?

I would not put it past plod to be using this as a way of getting at Cameron for the cuts to the Old Bill. Seem to have enough too much brass though if they can sent that lot of flatfoots down.
dont get too excited yet

"Under Scottish law a suspect is detained on suspicion of an offence unlike in England and Wales where a suspect is arrested. Mr Coulson has not been charged"
Either way baz it doesn't do DC any favours does it?
When sorrows come, they come not single spies, but in battalions.
dont really think it will make any difference, like its says "former DoC"
It certainly adds to the constant stream of news articles of late which show Cameron to be be either inept, a bully, or someone who is is all surface - glib and facile, as you might expect an ex PR man to be.

The most startling thing about the story to me though was the news that it took 7 officers to carry out the arrest warrant. Does seem a tad over-blown.....
