Seriously - you have to be an utter music nerd to get this one:

In terms of album titles, what do Sade, Elton John and Dire Straits have in common?

It's quite unique.

I heard this question back in the very late eighties and to my knowledge, I believe these are the only three artists this applies to. The only clue you have is that it relates to album titles and songs.

MarkRae/Steve.5 - I will feast on your tears as you struggle, and fail together the answer.

No idea why I'm laughing , non at all
Blimey
A shame it wasn't my answer - first words on the album are the title of the album but not the title of the song. That must be pretty rare. If there were some other albums that met those criteria, then what those albums had in common would make a good quiz question ...
> first words on the album are the title of the album but not the title of the song.

But they aren't!!! That's the problem with this. Ice On Fire comes from the song Nikita, which is the fourth song on the album Ice on Fire...
I know. But that was my guess - I stopped at Sade ...
As far as I can adequately understand, the criterion is that the title of the album is taken from the lyrics of one of the songs on that album but the song from which those lyrics come has a different name.

There are loads...
Yes, I can see there are loads from your responses on the previous page. :)

I'm suggesting that a better quiz question would have resulted in my answer. However, there's only one album that so far meets the criteria. If we could find another album or two (even if they weren't the only ones), asking what those two or three albums had in common would be a really good quiz question ...

E.g. I see from earlier posts that you're a big Snow Patrol fan. If the first two words of the song "I'll Never Let Go" on the Snow Patrol album "Fallen Empires" were "Fallen Empires", then the quiz question could be "What do the albums 'Fallen Empires' by Snow Patrol and 'Diamond Life' by Sade have in common?".

Most people would be thinking of producers, studios, etc. and struggle to twig it was something as obscure as the opening words being the title of the album...
> I see from earlier posts that you're a big Snow Patrol fan.

Very funny...
It really depends on who the target audience for this question is. If it's for a standard pub quiz, then what you're suggesting would be far too hard.

If it's for a classic rock music quiz, you could ask something like:

What is the connection between the following songs?
Queen - Sheer Heart Attack
E.L.P. - Brain Salad Surgery
Led Zeppelin - Houses of the Holy

or

What is the connection between the following songs?
Pink Floyd - Corporal Clegg
Uriah Heep - The Magician's Birthday
The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band - Collegiana

I don't think Ellipsis knows, I doubt he was being funy
Light up, light up, as if you had a choice...
> I don't think Ellipsis knows

I don't know the background, but I picked up from the context that Snow Patrol probably *weren't* MarkRae's favourite band.

> I doubt he was being funny

You're right. Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit. I apologise ...
I'm suggesting that a better quiz question would have resulted in my answer.

One of the scandals of modern life.
Hehe, yes, pub quizzes would be much better that way around ...
I have another one for you here - I'm not a pop music expert - I just happen to have the LP -
The Australian group The Church released an LP in Britain in the early 80's called
" The Blurred Crusade " which is a line from the song " You Took" . Singles from that LP were hits in Australia but not Britain .
