At the moment my hair is long pass my shoulders and I wear it up the majority of the time I like to keep It longer mainly because it's easier to manage and I have no patience with blow drying etc I'm having my hair done next week can anyone give me some style ideas ie should I go shorter now I'm in my 50s

The '' Bee hive '' 1960's Dusty Springfield style.

Certainly wouldn't have the patience to do that
I'm in my 60's and still have long hair. It's in extremely good nick (which I think is very important) and I just wear it in a pleat, a ponytail, or a bun.

Mines always in a ponytail craft would love to be able to plait it or put in a bun just haven't got the knack
Hi fruit,
shorter can look really nice! Do you like this? http://www.google.co....d=0CHMQ9QEwAg&dur=842
Since I got older, my hair is short. I just blow dry it (no styling) and its fine. Personally, I don't like to see older women with long hair, I just think it suits younger people better.
Why don't you ask your hairdresser what style they think would suit you.
I think if I ever have mine cut I'll go for the Judi Dench style............
As you get older long hair at the front drags your features down (like we don't have to suffer with gravity enough already!!). How about a bob - not long at the frnt but shorter at the back.

(ps - I'm also in my 50s and haven't had the guts to cut my hair - go girl)
Here's a few styles to look at fruit.
