Depends on the type of contract, where it was signed and various other factors. As put the question is far too vague to answer
it depends what the item was and where you signed for it
it it was sold in your home, you can cancel within 7 days in writting. If signed on a business premises it is usually a contract with no cooling off period. I have just rewritten our contracts in work which sells windows doors etc, so had to tread carefully with the cancellation clause
As has been stated it depends.
If you buy from a trader without having face to face contact or if you sign away from trade premises or sign a credit agreement in your own home you may be entitled to a “cooling off period”. After signing any credit agreement you should be given a copy of the agreement clearly setting out your cancellation rights
what kind of statue did you buy?
sorry, knee jerk reaction, I know you meant statutory. it's been a long day

Thank you all for help given. Was actually enquiring on behalf of a friend who had signed a contract and this referred to a topic I had posted under Home I think re Solar Panels
i was due to have the free cavity wall insulation installed in my home next month, we live in a new house and they came knocking on the door. they have starting doing it this week in various houses and made a right mess to the rendering which is cream, great big holes. So i am cancelling, they have not issued me with their cancellation policy so will not have a leg to stand on with trading standards. They should have written to me confirming the order outlining their terms of contract.
