I'm really interested in taking a CIPD qualification as I work in recruitment and training. However, having looked at their website, I'm completely confused! They offer lots of different qualifications and types of membership and I don't know where to begin. I'm interested in the qualification that would eventually let me put letters after my name (not for this reason! I'm thinking about moving into generalist HR and I know this qualification is highly respected) and would give me a sound base in all types of HR - can anyone help me out? Also I was trying to find out if the fact that I have a degree would mean I could 'skip' the first year (as someone has suggested) but I couldn't find that bit on the website either!

Hi Sasha

Righto, I'm currently in my first year of study for my CIPD qualification, so hopefully I can help you a little!

Last year did my Certificate in Personnel Practice (CPP), which was the one year course, it was a very through introduction to HR, although i've been in HR for nearly 4 years now there was lots of interesting info/law etc that I wasn't fully aware of. Also useful to get back into studying after a 6 year break! Its not compulsory if you have a degree but I would recommend it if a college near you offers it.

I started my CIPD in Sept and I'm finding it very tough! I don't have a degree and my nearest college wouldn't accept me even with my CPP! You can skip the CPP if you have a degree and most colleges will accept you on the strength of your degree. It is better to look at your local providers for their indiviual requirements, as it appears to change from centre to centre!

Hope this helps you a bit, but feel free to ask more questions if they help!

Kind regards & Good Luck
