Queen's Diamond Jubilee - why now ????

If my memory serves me right, she ascended the throne after the death of her father, George VI, on Feb 6th 1952. The Coronation was on 2nd June 1953 ...... so why have the Diamond Jubilee now ??? Surely it should have been on 6th Feb this year, or maybe even 2nd June next year ???
What am I missing ???
