Picked up a supposedly empty cartridge my husband had left on the side. All of a sudden "Nain, this is melting"!! Yellow ink all over his hands, top, my carpet. It took a day or two to wash off his hands. Sadly my carpet and his top didn't fare as well.
I've refilled my printer ink cartridges for the last twelve years and do very occasionally get a bit of ink on the fingers. I just used a bit of Dettol's Mould and Mildew remover (which is actually quite a strong bleach) until the ink fades and then wash the bleach off immediately with soap and water.
Never had any skin problems, etc. doing this.
This method is obviously no use if the ink gets on clothing, etc.
