In fact, while Game of Thrones is far more popular than I ever imagined it would be (and I've read each book within a month of publication) I'm not sure it has made that much of an impact on the "average" viewer.
There's more than 3 books, btw, but the lack of box office success of the film means it's unlikely to see further installments. As I've said here before, they badly misjudged the marketing: I love ERB's work, and would have loved to see the film, but the trailers didn't convince me that it was worth the effort (and 3D tax). I'll catch it on Sky Movies, though.
