Connecting my laptop to my TV - help please!

I have a modern flat screen TV which has on the side the following connections:
headphone jack hole
red, white and yellow connection holes
a round connection with 7 little holes in it.

My laptop (Advent Modena) which is new has only what I believe is a VGA connection ie a small rectangular connection with 3 rows of 5 holes.

I am lead to believe that this only carries the video and not sound signal?

So........will I have to get a lead from the VGA on the laptop to connect to the round connection on the TV (what is this called?) and then what about the sound?

I already have a connection with a jack plug at one end which fits into my laptop headphone socket and on the other are a red and a white push in connection. Am I thinking in the right direction?

My laptop is connected thus. Laptop vga to tv hdmi socket for video. I have connected my laptop headphone jack to my stereo amplifier for audio, but you could just connect the headphone jack to your tv audio, the red and white phonos, hope that makes sense

Are you sure your TV has not got a HDMI connection?

Most modern TVs (if they are HD ready) will have a HDMI socket.

Check the TV documentation.

Pity your laptop does not have HDMI socket as most people with new laptops and new TVs can connect them together with a HDMI cable. This carries picture and sound.

Thanks both - yes my TV does have hdmi connection, but only one which is connected to my PVR as I use the tv only as a monitor. Only the more expensive new laptops have hdmi I think and mine has not.
So, to go back to my question:
Should I use (and is there such a connection) a VGA to the 7 pin round female connection on my TV) and then phono in my laptop to the red and white (RCA?)connections on the tv - presumably the orange is not needed.

I think the round connection you describe is an S- video common to camcorders and yes you can get adaptors for vga.
