side lights on a Meriva

My dad has just bought a brand new Vauxhall Meriva. When the engine is running the side lights are on all the time. Is this correct? many thanks in advance

Yes they are DLR's ( day light running ).

many modern vehicles now have these although some can be turned off in the vehicle settings.
As has been said, they are daytime running lamps. I understand that the are fitted to all cars now made for the EU market.
Have you noticed the Volvo cars Jkelly? they started the ball rolling, it was found that by leaving your dipped lights on it reduces accidents, this was proven.

I know Volvo have their lights on all the time but I have been looking out for new Vauxhalls on the road and haven't seen any with their lights on in the daytime so just made me wonder.
Have alook in the cars hand book, look at light settings you may be able to turn them off.
