Wasn't she wonderful? Shes 87 you know. An inspiration to everyone with her diamonds and expensive dresses, Rolls Royce, race horses, butlers, garden parties, carriages, private jet etc. I'm inspired! Or am I?

it wasn't a role she was supposed to have, seeing as how her uncle abdicated and left them get on with it. As far as one can say she has spent 60 years doing the job well, has never ever put a foot wrong, at least that we know of, and how many people can say that. It isn't all waving of hands and smiling. Who would want the job, no one i suspect, but she got it by dint of family obligations, i admire her immensely.

When she was born she had the same status as Princess Beatrice, eldest daughter of the second son. At the time it could not be foreseen that the Prince of Wales would not have children and abdicate the throne.

Re earlier discussion of pictures of the Queen pregnant, before the sixties, it was considered very bad form for a woman to "flaunt" her pregnancy, some even didn't go out! I recall some very terse comments in newspapers and general horror when in the 1970s P. Anne was pictured looking very pregnant at a horse event.
