First of all try to relax a bit, make sure you wrap stuff properly, don't make the boxes too heavy, MARK the boxes as to which room they should go in, take the Kettle.tea pot, cups etc with you,in the car,you don't want to spend hours looking for them, just try to think logically and pack the van etc so that the stuff for each room is near together, Good luck, Ray

My personal tips are:-
1. Pack bed linen and towels in with delicate crockery, vases etc. The fabric provides extra cushioning so there's no chance of breakages. Pack your smaller pictures into boxes with cushions/pillows for the same reason.
2. Sharp knives - I wrap all of mine together in newspaper, then wrap tea-towels around that.
3. 5-7 days before you're due to move you can safely pack up every last item, leaving out a suitcase with all your basics for the rest of the week. Pack the case as though you were going on holiday, with just the essentials that you need. That way you've got all your clothes/toiletries to hand but can continue to pack away everything else.
4. Make packing fun. Crank up the portable radio or put on a cd that makes you feel like dancing/singing. Have a glass of beer to hand and a plate of nibbles too. It starts to feel like a party!! :o)

On the outside of the boxes write the main contents and the room they belong in. As you pack each box, make a more detailed list and put it inside the box, on the top. This is especially useful if you've included small items that don't necessarily belong, to fill small spaces that would otherwise be wasted. That way, if for example you need something unexpectedly, or your dear auntie who gave you that lovely whatyoucallit decides to visit, you'll only have to open the boxes and check the detailed list, without having to rummage through every box to put the item on display!
Put things you'll need in the first couple of days, e.g. clean clothes, towel, toiletries, any medication etc, in a suitcase as tho you were going away for a weekend. hopefully you'll have got more organised by the time the suitcase stuff is used. Alternatively, pack clothes in outfits rather than all tshirts together, all trousers together (can't find the underwear box!!!).
Always take valuables with you personally, don't put them in the removal van.
