Legally, yes, you have the right to make a copy of any copyright material you own for personal use,anyway whose to know ?
No, actually.

Even to put music on an mp3 player or Ipod is breaking the copyright law. I doubt the plod will be kicking in your door anytime soon though.
Deggers316 is (technically) incorrect.

It's illegal in the UK to copy commercial CDs or DVDs (even for 'personal use' or 'back up' purposes) without the permission of the copyright holder. In other countries (e.g. the USA) such copying is lawful.

The Government has broadly accepted the recommendations of the Hargreaves Review

but the legislation currently remains unchanged. (The Government carried out a consultation process, which closed on 21st March this year. An analysis of the responses was promised within three months, with a White Paper likely to follow at a later date).
