Insulating a flat roof

We are having some condensation problems and have been told this is down to the poor insulation of our flat roof (only over our bedroom).

We recently had the flat roof replaced as it was leaking before (they just went over the top of what was there with a new layer - is this normal - or should they have removed the old? - it cost 780 to replace a flat roof 12 by 15 foot - is this OK in London? Or steep?) it is fine now - but all the insulation advice is now telling us that we should have added insulation then - when the old stuff was removed (???)

The only other option that was mentioned to us by the roofer was to add polystyrene blocks to the roof then add felt over the top - at a cost of 500. I would be keen to get this done if it wasn't for the cost - anyone know where I can find out more about this so i can look into DIY. Maybe i am searching for the wrong thing - but I haven't seen any yet.

Thanks,

L

I am no expert but I would call around a few insulation installers as I am think that it may be possible to perhaps inject some insulation material (rockwool) into the space between your ceiling and the roof covering. It should mean just a few small holes in the ceiling which would be easy to fill and paint over.

Thanks for that - I will see if that is possible. A few small holes would be a small price to pay!

Whatever you do don't do that. There are two types of flat roof 1 Warm Deck 2 Cold Deck. The difference is where you put the insulation. One needs ventilation otherwise you will have serious problems. Seek good professional advice. Without knowing all the details I hesitate to suggest a solution.

Check out all advice given. There are some good web sites.
