My sister has a son who is 4 who has a blood disorder that requires a monthly blood transfusion which isn't done at her local hospital but at a big General hospital 65 miles away. She is a single parent and doesn't drive so has to rely on someone to drive them to the hospital or get a train and then a taxi from the station to the hospital. My question is, does anyone know if there is anything like a Government/NHS benefit which would cover her travelling costs to and from the hospital? Her local hospital referred them to a specialist at this hospital so they have no choice but to travel to see him so I just wondered if there was anything available.

If your sister receives Income Supprt she can reclaim the full costs of travel. She is also entitled to reclaim her travel costs if she receives Child Tax Credit and her annual income is less than 15050. Is she does not meet these criteria she may still be eligible for some assistance. See this PDF:
