Forgotten password in Ubuntu

I've just installed Ubuntu alongside Windows XP on my netbook as a dual boot system (using Wubi).
It took about 8 hours downloading (perhaps I should have requested a CD) but when I tried to start it up, it didn't recognise the username and password I thought I'd used - and after many attempts at trying other possible combinations, I'm wondering whether I may just have to remove the entire installation and start all over again or whether anyone knows a way I can retrieve the username and password required?

Forgot windows password, you can reinstall Windows or reset the old password with windows password reset tool. I do not recommend you to reinstall Windows, which can lead a data loss. You can downloaded Windows Password Reset 9.0 and burned it to a CD/DVD or USB memory card. Then to remove the password. http://www.reset-windows-password.com
