What percentage of knife crimes are 'cleared up' and the assailant eventually convicted?

i cannot speak from experience, but my opinion for what's it worth, is a small percentage are cleared up. As to what happens to the assailant, i don't reckon, unless a person dies at their hands, that they go to prison.
Perhaps there's some evidence, data out there to shed more light.

I had thought there would have been a good clear up rate for this type of crime and the authorities could have used that fact to deter other would be assailants.
If there isn't, then they couldn't. Pity.

Do you mean assaults and robberies with knives or all knife crime which would include the bloke who went fishing and forgot to leave his gutting knife at home?
A lot of 'knife crime' only comes to light as the result of an arrest/stop eg: Paul gets pie-eyed and arrested for d&d and when searched at the station is found in possession of a lock knife so a 'knife' crime is recorded.

I meant teenagers killing one another with knives. If young knife murderers were routinely convicted then a campaign with a slogan like: 'stab somebody and you're putting yourself in for a life sentence,' might help reduce the number of such crimes.

I think half the problem is that if a yob gets convicted and jailed of an assault with a knife it is the equivalent of giving a knighthood to a 'normal' member of society - they consider it to be a badge of rank and bask in the kudos attached.

sandy, i am not convinced that it would work. It seems a badge of honour for some to be carrying a knife, posing like some gangster.
if you are in a gang then it's supposedly cool to carry one. Not so cool when someone gets murdered, but some don't seem to care. So sending them down for a long stretch will just get them off the street, not sure it would be a life lesson to his gang members.
