Cables for AV receiver Onkyo TX NR609?

Can i use old speaker cables from old surround sound system on new receiver. will have to remove square connectors on box end and strip back but will this be ok? Assuming its black to black and red is blue? Will ask shop first but expected some cables in box even if only sub woofer jack? Have Canton speakers for 5.1 set up. If not, anyone recommend any cables please.

Yep, to a certain degree a wire is a wire, surround sound speakers don't benefit from huge speaker cables the same way as full range speaker do (which even then is only a small amount)

OH and it doesn't matter which way round you connect the wires as long as you do them all the same.
