Does anyone recall reading Old Lob stories at school.  A long time ago I know, but there was a dog, a farmer and a family I think?

That brings back memories! The Old Lob books were the first reading books I had at school. I'm afraid it was a very long time ago !

That nudged a long forgotten part of my brain! I was born in 1955 so would have been at infant school in 1960. I guess it was a reading book that was in use at the time, so was clearly published in the 1950's. A search with Amazon or a visit to a good antiue book shop may help. I recall an old grey bearded gardener but remember nothing more about the twists and turns, drama and scandel that took place on his allottment or garden!
I'm so glad I'm not the only one who remembers these books. I learnt to read with them and when I mentioned them to my husband (who is the same age) he fell about laughing and said I'd made it up!

Spudqueen, my brother and I learned how to read with them.  He is very pleased to have been given a copy of one of the books for Christmas, and I would really like to get him some more (bless him, anything to keep the lad happy!)
tether end what a brilliant present! A story about a chick with only 1 wing 1 eye and 1 leg has just popped into my head. I think that might have been in the Farmer Lob books. (Or maybe I did make that one up)!
I also learnt from Old Lob and am currently taking part in a research project into synaesthesia which is a condition in which people see letters and/or numbers in colour. do you? I have a theory that I was influenced by Old Lob but do not have any copy of it.
I remember them. Before one graduated to a book, there were reader cards, with pictures. Old Lob was the farmer, and his sheepdog Mr Dan. There was also Percy the bad chick, and his mate Master Willy the pig. Mr Grumps the goat, and Mother hen and the chicks. Miss Tibbs was the cat, and there was a shire horse whose name I cant remember. likewise the cow. Mrs something. One chapter I remember which had a marked imprint on my memory was a train crash, near the farm. Happy days long ago
I was born in 1956 and Old Lob was my first reading book - the cow was Mrs Cuddy and Dobbin was the horse. Would love to get a copy to read again - any suggestions where as out of print - tried ebay but no luck
Yes. We used them at my primary school in the late 1940s. Old Lob the farmer, Dobbin the horse and Percy the bad chick. I remember the story when Percy the bad chick fell into the dustcart. It made me cry because I thought he would be lost forever. I would like to track a copy down but it seems impossible.
I too recall the book.. There was Mr Grumps , the goat, Mr Dan, the dog, Old Lob, the farmer. I too have looked to see if these books are for sale , but I do not think they are now. ah fond memories..
Hurrah - some other Lobians! My mother-in-law was my teacher at infant school (she wasn't my mother in law then, of course!) and so my husband and I are both Lob-children. I could already read when I went to school, so quickly whizzed through the HUGE Lob book and was put in the corner for being disruptive. Happy days! Do people remember the more difficult books that came after, with comic strip type pages and more complicated stories, with Percy the Bad Chick being the main character, as I remember. And has anyone found any to buy - our son doesn't believe us!
I remember these stories too, but my memory is with these stories in a caribbean setting! I too have been trying to track down ANY copy of the stories. I believe they were written by EH Grassam but have not found anything more than that. If any finds where they are sold - pass on the good times
I know the question was originally asked over 4 years ago, but I've just bought a box of old childrens books from an auction to re-sell, and one of them is 'OLD LOB AND HIS FAMILY'. It's a bit scruffy, but complete. Anyone out there still interested in purchasing it?
Could I ask if "Old Lob" is still available or if anyone else has a copy or knows where I might get one? I've been looking for years.....! Thanks Media URL: http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/Arts-and-Literature/Question106817.html(Optional) Enter URL
