For over a year we have been begging our landlady to cut some cypress leylandii down in the back garden (they are 30ft+ tall). They block light and are very unstable since the high winds. Next door are helping us by phoning our estate agents to badger them to get them done soon as they are blocking light to there house too. Really need them gone but have no money to pay to have them removed our selves. Dave (from next door) popped round today and lopped back many of the over hanging branches but cant do much more. They are also helping with the neurotic spaniel by arranging 'play dates' with there dogs, to help her socialization :) happy days.

However, I also think if you insisted on them being cut down to size so to speak there would probably be a charge. In my mind there is the sum of £200 but I could be mis-remembering it. I know there was a lot of fuss and bother some time ago but my memory of it is very sketchy. It would entail the use of a tree surgeon, who would probably charge quite a bit. Sorry to be so vague.
I do not know, its not my problem its the landlords. They have been aware theres an issue with the trees for a very long time and simply bury there heads in the sand. Enough's enough they need to sort it asap. They said they would do it after harvest last year and nothing nada zip, so will keep ringing and badgering!
I believe there is a height restriction,I only know because we were a bit worried we would be reported because of the height of our leylandii,i think it is a charge of up to a thousand pound,so we had ours cut down about 6foot and keep having them cut every year about 3/4foot thats how much they grow a year, still we know they are still to tall but no-one has complained about them YET!
