Grooming long haired GSD
9 Answers
My ten year old GSD is a beautiful long haired dog. I take her to the groomers every eight week and she comes back gleaming.
On a day to day basis, I use a brush to groom her but as I get older, I find it more and more difficult to do the bending of my head and kneeling that I used to do. As a consequence, she doesn't get groomed properly especially around her 'trousers', which she hates having done.
Would one of those furminators be better for me to use? Would it get the job done more quickly? I don't want to hurt what might be sore bones in her hips and shoulders.

Mind you I never got him looking like he did when he'd been done professionally he really looked the top dog
A furminator doesnt touch the double coat of a Rough Collie. I would try using a long pin brush together with an anti tangle grooming spray which will help keep her tidier for longer.

Thank you for your answers. I do stand her on the back door patio which is three steps high so I don't have to kneel down. It's the neck bending which is a problem. I'll try a furminator if it works on a sabre toothed tiger!
My previous GSD who we had from a puppy also loved being groomed. This one who is a rescue, has always made a fuss although she does settle after a while.
I'll also look out for some anti tangle spray. Thanks for the link.

I cant see how a Furminator is going to get through your dogs 'trousers', the pins arnt long enough.
Grooming spray, a bottle will last you ages.
