AA / RAC tipping

Do AA and RAC patrolmen expect a tip?

I was helped by one today, and didn't know whether it is normal to tip.

Hopkirk I have only called out thrice in 7 years, once for a flat tyre and then once for a report for an insurance claim [dont ask it was complicated] and third time I ran out of petrol even though it said I had 37 miles left.
Tipped each time with flat tyre they reached me in 7 mins [RAC].
