Please settle a "friendly?" argument for me. The 1812 overture was written to commemorate which battle?. I say it was the battle of Borodino but my friend says it was Waterloo.Which is it please?

Battle of Borodino: 1812.
Battle of Waterloo: 1815.

The music is a "battle" between the Russian and the French national anthems. The Russians did not fight at Waterloo, so it can't be Waterloo.

The Imperial Russian Anthem which is played at the end of the 1812 Overture is (to my mind) always spoilt by the cannon and bells that conclude the piece.
The music of the anthem is one of three still in the Ancient & Modern Hymnbook - UK, Russia & Austria.
