Two months ago an african women replied to my Garage to Let advert in the local paper, she agreed to rent the garage and paid me a deposit and the first months rent, the second months rent was paid in cash. Now that the third months rent is due she says she would rather pay the money into my bank account and is asking for my details Name,Address,Sort Code, Account Name and Account I am suspicous of this and asked her why she can't send me a cheque. Has anyone heard of a way of plundering an account once you have the details ?

Climbingtiger, look at a cheque. You will see all that information there but I bet you don't think twice about paying by cheque.

In this modern world paying by direct bank transfer is perfectly safe, acceptable and common.
I do all my billing online, this sounds like the sort of information I would ask for in order to set up a monthly payment. I don't see anything wrong with it.
ok i give up give your bank account details out to a stranger ,c if i care !
There is nothing wrong with it.
I would give her the following information:

Account name: A B See
Sort Code
Account number

That is all the info anybody needs.
Apart from your address this is the information you give every time you send a cheque.
its up 2u bob at the end of the day ,if you google scammers u will find people to contact who will be able to tell u,im just saying it sounds a bit fishy ,be carefull, end of my input.
at last!
In Germany there are no cheques. Payment is commonly made by internet banking. All companies print on their stationery bnak name, account number and sort code. I give those details out to people who pay me. It's normal practice if you use the internet.
Or bank name...
It doesn't sound fishy at all to me, I'm wondering if bob would have queried it if his tenant hadn't been African (since he mentions this specifically).
