Another question reminded me of a conversation I had with my friends last week about simple things that some of us can't do.
Mine was that I still struggle to tell the time on an analogue clock! Out of my friends, one can't whistle, one can't click his fingers and none of them could touch their toes!
You are not alone tigger, I can do the breast stroke but not the crawl, and I can only swim if my feet can still touch the bottom of the pool. If not I panic, even more so if the water gets past my chin. I can ride a bike but not for the past fifty years.
Snap AYG, I can only do breast stroke (if you can call what I do that) with my head above water and knowing that I can touch the floor with my feet. No going in the deep end for me. I can do a bit of crawl but I tire after 5 or 6 strokes.
I used to be able to do backstroke when I went swimming with the school. I can't seem to do it anymore as I'm too scared. I know, I'm a wuss (and stupid).
scared of what? I'd be scared of bumping into people, so I only do it when I have the whole pool to myself or the whole sea; but it's not really scary as you only put the back of your head in the water. (I am another not very accomplished swimmer.)
Its probably a subconcious thing Jno. I seem more fearful of things as I get older. I haven't flown for around 6 years as I've developed a fear of flying.
drive a car...ride a bike...rollerskate...touch my nose with my tongue...
whistle with fingers in mouth...do the crawl...can't tell a story ad-lib...
ballet dance...tap dance...
There's probably loads of things I can't do, but the only ones I can think of seem to involve my tongue, I can't roll my R's. whistle with my fingers in my mouth or blow bubbles with bubblegum. I don't think the tongue is my mouth belongs to me ! :)
