/// Roy Ramm, a former Met Police commander who specialises in terrorism, said security forces had to be sensitive and
effective. ///

/// If they move too quickly, they can be accused of being oppressive and disruptive, particularly in the month of Ramadan. If they move too slowly, then the risk to the public is enormous."///

Why bother if they are accused of being oppressive and disruptive? It is not the time to delay because of certain sensitivities, if they think they know who these terrorists are, then they should act immediately, and so remove the threat.

Easier said than done as a mistake can lead to a huge propaganda coup for those who would seek to disrupt and maim, twisting it into racist oppression of "their" people. As one who grew up in Northern Ireland I often wished for more-direct action against terrorists on all sides, but it can be counter-productive. The resultant propaganda can also be a huge recruitment factor for future low lifes.

Incidentally, how many of those who would carry out these atrocities would, in reality, consider themselves to be "our countrymen"?

None, but we are told to consider them to be.
I'll consider anyone who wants to be considered; to do otherwise would be to inflict my views upon others.
The reason is:

///As we know,
There are known knowns.
There are things we know we know.
We also know
There are known unknowns.
That is to say
We know there are some things
We do not know.
But there are also unknown unknowns,
The ones we don't know
We don't.///
Quite agree AOG, it does not stop them at Christmas.
if they think they know who these terrorists are, then they should act immediately

Like Jean Charles de Menezes? Immediate action against him certainly did the trick, don't you think?
I'm beginning to suspect that our excellent police service is a few steps ahead in the fight against terrorism.

I say this because of the absolute and complete lack of any atrocities during the Jubilee weekend.

Not a squeak - when the eyes of the world were on the UK. If I were a terrorist (and I am not), I would see the crowds in the Mall as a perfect opportunity for creating ultimate chaos.

Perhaps the police know more about policing than us?

Just a thought...
I'd damned well like to think so!
