Work photoshoot

My company is having a photo-shoot day where a photographer will be wandering around taking professional photos of our department to be used in internal and external promotion/marketing.

If you don't want any photo of yourself used you need to fill in a Opt-out form prior to the event.

From a legal point of view is it right that I should have to opt out. Or should there be an opt in form instead.

Don't get so pernickerty, someone has to sign for either opt in or opt out and in most cases the opt out often has the fewer people so is easier to administer.


Just sign it if you don't want to be in the photos and then stop worrying about on silly signature.

there is no legal 'right' or wrong here - you are being given the option either way, so what difference does it make?

as noted, its probably easier to process the few who wont want to be in it.

They don't even have to ask your permission or inform you that it is going to happen let alone offer an 'opt out' .
The photographer has the company's permission to work on their site he/she can photograph anything and anyone they like.
If I was the employer and workers started objecting to being in a photo of the work place I would be wondering what they wanted to hide .

woofgang, you actually have no legal right to opt out, the photos are of the company and if you work there you are part of 'the company', as I said, legally they don't even need your permission to use photos of you if you are on company premises, they are actually doing more than they have to by offering the opt out.

I was responding to this. I am aware that I have not right to refuse but if offered the opportunity to refuse then i would do so.

Thanks for all the sympathetic replies.

I was thinking of wearing a set of comedy teeth and do lots of smiling at the camera (a video camera it turns out!!) but it appears that the photoshoot has been moved to another office; someone must have told them how good looking we were.

I think that you sitting at your desk smiling (without the funny teeth) would have freaked them out anyway.
