The names pretty self explanatory, they are additions to a particular piece of software to enable extra features.

I have a meteorological add on, which shows your local forecast which shows on your screen when first switched on. I also have a clock, and date. If that is what you mean but other half sorted it for me - too technical for me I'm afraid.
