Going to Monaco Grand Prix . . .

. . . and am thinking of staying around that area for a few days either before or after the race weekend. Can anyone recommend what to do, where to go, what to see etc?
We would be interested in staying somewhere unusual or doing something a little different ie not too touristy. We like food and wine.
(We are planning to fly into and out of Nice.)
