I'm thinking of joining slimming world. I've done the weight watchers bit--- got nowhere! I've been a member of Curves for a long time to help keep mobile and I walk a fair bit too, but the weights not shifting. Seems the older you get the harder it is!!! Can anyone convince me that slimming world works?

Do you want to join Slimming world to lose weight?

Don't bother.

There is a simple formula that will guarantee weight loss and mean you can eat as much as you like.

It is as simple as this. If you burn more calories than you consume you will lose weight. Conversely, if you consume more calories than you burn, you will put on weight.

You don't need to join a club to lose weight, you just need to put in some graft.
I echo any dont bother posts - same for WW
Found slimming world complicated - I think it has something to do with the women who run the clubs -they are nice enough but there is just something .....
I found low carb worked for me. I shifted 1 1/2 stone, and have kept it off by sticking to the principles. Am now the weight I was 30 years ago.
There had been some good threads here discussing low carb, but the Ed has seen fit to remove them. At least people could have read about alternatives to SS and WW.
I've been following the SW plan but on my own at home as I had the old books at home and bought the new books on ebay, and have lost 5st 7lb since last September so it works for me. We are all different though so think you just have to find what suits you.
You have to be focussed and you have to follow the diet properly. I have done both in years past, Slimming World and Weight Watchers. Both worked and then I put all the weight back on again when I stopped keeping to the diet. I have just joined Weight Watchers again and have lost 4 lbs in the first two weeks. It is very difficult because I feel hungry half way through the afternoon and then again half way through the evening. I ignore the hungry feeling and read or watch tv. I must keep it off this time because it is becoming uncomfortable to be so fat. Spare tyres hurt!!
slimming world is ok you will lose weight if you stick to it and you can eat loads
That's very true Rowan. I have friends who have done Weight Watchers and say they are always hungry but on SW there is no need to go without if you stick to the plan. I never feel hungry.
I lost £and a half stone on it... put it all back but I blame REDman and his love of bloke food, beer and puddings
3 and a half
What Goonermatt said is true although it's taken me a long time to believe it.
It wasn't until I was referred to a dietician that I realised my portion sizes were far too big.
I can't do strenuous exercise so it had to be eat less, and although it can be hard as Starby says you just have to persevere and eventually your stomach gets used to accepting less food and you will lose weight.
You can even eat too much of what you think is healthy for you i.e fruit.
I used to sit and eat grapes a lot but now I limit them to about 10 a day.
Good luck with your weight loss. x
Lol, it's the beer I struggle with too but I'm not a pudding lover, thank goodness. I try and save it up for the weekends now.

Many thanks for all your comments everyone! I think we all know what to do to lose weight it's doing it that's the problem! I think I will give slimming world a go and see. Also up the exercise a bit.
I go to SW and I've lost 1.5 stone since January. I find it works very well and you can eat plenty as long as you stick to the plan. It does get harder as you get older (I'm late 60's) but you can do it if you're determined. Give it a try and good luck.
