Hi I have found a cheque dated just over 12 months ago (it got mislaid in moving house) can I bank it only I don`t want to incur charges for a returned cheque

Cheques are usually valid for 6 months, to save charges ask the issuer to send a new cheque to you and send the old one back to them with cancelled wrote across it.Keeping a copy for yourself.

It depends on the cheque. Often, the interval is written on the cheque itself. The intervals vary from 30 days to 90 days to 6 months. You may get away with it if the banks do not notice the dates.
no, there is no time limit on cheques providing the payer is 'in house and in order' (ie. still banks there)! and private customers are not charged for returned cheques anyway!
