Does Richard Littlejohn have a point?
For an illegal immigrant to enter the UK an Aghanistan has to travel through at least 8 countries (as the crow flies) before he gets to the UK. So should the castegory of asylum seeker be erased from the book when they could have applied for asylum in one of those countries.

LJ certainly does have a point, we bend over backwards normally to uphold EU law but it seems that is that law (for once) does not fit the narrow views of the hand wringing liberal left chattering in their Islington coffee shop then we can ignore it.
And, as usual, thos that disagree are facists. Surprised we are not Racists too, thats usually the liberal left/Noo labour shout.

Ah but that's my whole point Mr Bog - you, AOG and Baz all like to pigeonhole. It's either "left" or "right", then there is this expression "the nasty left" which I find totally incongruous. Maybe I'm missing something here but aren't most "lefties" peace-loving and benign ? From my POV it's the (so called) right that are generally the rabid drooling ones that scream for hanging to be brought back, immigrants to be sent "home" and "zero tolerance" attitudes to be taken (ie. nasty).
Your use of the term "hand-wringing" actually makes me laugh, and not in a condescending way either but I do find it a bit sad that a gesture of concern and worry should be seen as something to put down and belittle. You lot seem to guffaw and bully your way through society with this dogmatic "we're right, you're wrong END OF" attitude. Thank god you're in a minority.

I thought intelligent people could separate facts from personalities. Many people do not like Littlejohn but what he has said in this article makes you want to sit up and listen. The alternive view is to be bigoted and ignore anything that he has said. Immigration is far too high and needs to be tackled otherwise we'll all be swimming in the swamp.
Sorry pdq1 - I'm aware I've hijacked your thread a bit with my views but I just cannot thole the guy and yes, I admit I'm biased. I question your use of the term 'facts' as spoken by Mr LJ and he most certainly fails to make *me* want to stand up and listen. Questioning my intelligence on this matter is a bit unfair IMO.
it's reasonable to expect that we have differing views, and i don't much like being called a fascist because i might agree with something someone says, whether it's a jobbing journalist, or my aunt mabel.
As to many of these left wing politicians, are they not the ones who expect people to agree with what they say, be it over race, religion, immigration, gays, marriage and so forth, doesn't that smack of a degree of fascism, see we can all play that silly game.

Flip Flop, it looks like you misread my post.
Specifically "anybody who does agree with him is a facist and makes you incensed" I said "people LIKE RLJ make me feel insensed" ie. journalists and 'spokespersons' like him and it's not just because he happens to have differing views from me, it's more that he is an opinionated aggressive bully boy (IMO).
If you think I'm arrogant, then maybe you have a point and I should have owned what I said rather than stating it as fact so please take it as read that there should be a few "I think"s and "IMO"s in there.
I will re-iterate something I said earlier because I think it's significant:
My suspicion is that those who shouted loudest about my choice of language are copping out - using foul language as an excuse - simply because I insulted someone they revere.
I invite debate from anyone on that last statement, particularly AOG.
Bog, as you have conveniently skirted over the issue, I'll also re-iterate this: "Surprised we are not Racists too, thats usually the liberal left/Noo labour shout" well that proves my point about pigeon-holing as far as you're concerned - I never brought race into it and you have no idea about the intricacies of my political leanings, you make too many presumptions.
Duncer, I was referring to modern day "lefties" as members of the general population, not tyrannical world leaders - then again, I suspect you knew that ;-)
