New kitchen advice...

I have today ordered a solid oak kitchen original cost £8,500 for my size kitchen (consists of about 10 units plus lighting in wall cabinets) at the sale price got if for £5,200 (including fitting/electrician ceramic 1.5 sink and taps). It is a really good quality kitchen, solid oak cabinets with interior wall lights. I thought I had a bargain, HOWEVER, just told my best friend and she said she thinks the price is way too high?! She paid £6 grand for a wood laminate kitchen last year and her kitchen is about half my size - I dont understand how she thinks this is high. She also said she wd never get a solid wood kitchen as it dents/marks??? Im confused... Help??? have already paid a small deposit....

ive just paid £5k for a kitchen of about 6 or 7 units in high gloss white, including fitting, worktops,sink and all plumbing.

if you like it and feel its a bargain then ignore your friend

sounds like a good price, you don't want a bargain kitchen you want a good quality one at a good price and fitted properly with the right appliances and the right finish.

My main question there was probably "Is solid wood better wearing/durable than laminate"?? I think it is, as it is double the price of laminate.... but now I am confused...............????????

oak makes for good quality, do not listen to your (jealous lol) friend. If you are happy with it then it can only be good

Hope the hinges and handles are quality......they're often fixed to laminate and one lean on them & they're off.

Sounds a good price to me for solid wood.You have done well. your friend is just jealous so go for it.My kitchen is of solid wood. put in by the previous occupant to sell the house presumably, but it is brilliant have been here 14 years and all is like new. Yes you do need to look after it and to exercise some care , but who wouldn't with a beautiful kitchen like the one you are going to have. Some best friend eh !!!!!!

If it is solid wood, any marks/ dents/scorches can be removed by sanding & waxing. Laminates dent just as much as solid wood - i've got a dent in the formica worktop where a big dish fell off a high shelf.
