Does anyone know the context of the quotation by Goncourt Brothers "If three Englishmen were to be marooned on a desert island the first thing they would do is to form a Club"? I know it is in their diary, but when and what is full content. References?

Thanks Heathfield. The mystery continues, where is the original quote? Richard Deacon in 'The Cambridge Apostles' Preface has two men being marooned - the search goes on.....
