Mobility Scooters, should the persons that Bye / hire be made to have a test? article on this morning regards the injury caused by some that think they are on a race track with these things.

Definitely should be tested. I live in sheltered housing and have nearly been run over in the corridor a couple of times. They always seem to think they have right of way.

Cazz, cost does not come into it when you are talking about safety, some of these users are a danger, they think that the have the right to plough their way through the public with address, we were in Tenerife last week the things are one after the other with NO Horns / warnings of their approach from the rear, until the person using them are given a 2 hour test there will be more accidents & in some cases, Fatal. Tony, I understand your feelings, it gives the person that uses them independence but I think they should be tested to give them THAT INDEPENDENCE.

I agree regarding safety, motorised scooters are still quite a new thing, I agree that potential users should be assessed prior to use, I would be concerned if a raft of costs (test, a scooter license, insurance, retesting every so often) would prevent a person who is housebound from being able to go outside and have some sort of freedom.

ordinary drivers have to undergo a test. I'd like to report that this has stopped road accidents from happening but it hasn't. Is the proportion of mobility scooter accidents actually any bigger than for cars?
