Depends what it is, and where I'm buying, but I always try shoes on.
I would have thought you would inspect anything you were about to buy?

If I bye an Item of clothing Jeans, shoes, trainers etc, I always inspect for flaws in the stitching, the seams etc Bednobs.
Yes of course, if it's on a hanger, but I wouldn't open a sealed packet.
Yes, make sure buttons are there, zips works and no holes anywhere.
I am very careful to examine anything I buy. Especially from charity shops.
I rarely buy anything in shops these days, I buy online. If they are flawed I send them back for free.
