Hi .. I posted a question on here last night about lack of sound on my new (second hand ) computer. Cutting a long story short I was given some very good advice about needing to reinstall an Audio Driver which could be downloaded for free online.. Great I thought, easy enough..I then sat at my computer to do just that only to find a mine-field of options and choices... I am using WindowsXP... Can anyone tell me which is the best one to use ?

Right click on the my computer icon, either on the desktop or in the start menu and select properties, then click on the hardware tab, and then the device manager button.

once you can see the device manager you should see an unknown device with a yellow exclamation mark next to it, double click on that and click on the details tab, select hardware ID from the dropdown menu and you should be a string of characters that starts something like pci\ven

Post that entire string and someone will look to see which driver you probably need.

Done that ..... Found it ......
If there is a way of posting that I'm unsure of ... It won't let copy 'n' paste .. It just says "whats this?". Should I just write it down ?

P.S. There is 4 strings of characters on the hardware ID all starting with pci\ven......... just can't copy 'n' paste......
Click on the top one so it's highlighted and press CTRL + C and it will copy it, then you can paste it the normal way.

P.P.S .... Oh and by the way it isn't highlighted by a yellow exclamation mark, but by a yellow question mark.... Does that make any difference?

PCI\VEN_1106&DEV_3059&SUBSYS_810D1043&REV_60
PCI\VEN_1106&DEV_3059&SUBSYS_810D1043
PCI\VEN_1106&DEV_3059&CC_040100

These are the 4 showing.... I've tried the Hardware wizard.... that's a no-go!
I am really appreciating your help. We don't really use computer for anything complex, but what we do use it for always needs speakers. You don't realize how much until it's gone...
