The managers are very often very well paid, that unfortunately is not a guarantee of anything, sometimes they are aware of what goes on and sometimes not, they cant be watching their staff every minute of the day, sometimes the managers are excellent but they just don't get the funding to run a good home. You will never get all the Care Homes to be perfect, things are slowly improving with new legislation but it takes time and many innocent people will suffer on the way unfortunately.

At the end of the day, no amount of money or training will make anybody a good carer you either have it or you dont.
But lets not lose the good carers to stacking shelves in
Morrisons for £7.00 + an hour because that is what they need to do to pay their mortgage, that is what is currently happening.

Thank you Gina.
RATTER - a good carer is worth their weight in gold, unfortunately they are few and far between. Wiping somebody's bum or feeding them doesn't come very high on the wages scale. Its quite scary and I hope to god I don't end up in a Home after what I have experienced. I hope, when the time comes I will muster the strength to take that bottle of pills.

Sorry to use that turn of phrase, but in the first Care Home my Mum was in, thats basically all they did. Never interacted with residents, just did the basics, there was no conversation. There idea of interaction was, sitting in the day room with them doing their paperwork.
I sound bitter, because I witnessed some horrible stuff, RATTER. The highlight of their week was me dancing with some and my Dad singing old tunes.......their faces lite up. It makes me want to cry just thinking about it.

237SJ, Exactly, so you really need to sack them, but first you have to replace them or run the risk of not having staff to cover their shifts, who do you replace them with? They aren't queuing up for these jobs at minimum wage, so they end up employing anybody that applies and the circle starts again. It isnt a production line that you can just close down or run on a skeleton crew, if only it was so easy. Also you need to bear in mind that a successful applicant may not be able to start for 6 weeks while waiting for a CRB.
