Kitten and her litter box

So I bought our new kitten home yesterday and purchased the litter that the breeder was using which was pellets. I also rather foolishly bought a kitten sized litter tray. It became apparent within hours that she was not comfortable using it as she would kick the litter about a bit and then walk out of the tray and meow in disapproval, so we used an old tray as a temporary measure which was much bigger and she did her business. That was at about 9pm last night, since then she hasn't done a poop. I went and bought a large litter tray today and lined it with saw dust and a layer of litter (pellets). We then went out for a walk and upon return noticed that she had kicked it about a bit, but it doesn't look like she has urinated. So, since last night she may not have done anything. I had to get a new tray as the temporary one was too big and didn't have sides.

Just to give you a bit of background info, we have only introduced her to the Lounge since she arrived. She is eating and drinking regularly and her litter tray is located by the side of the sofa which is not in view of anyone.

Give her time. If she is ok in herself, then it's a matter of letting her get used to what is a new and very big world. We hoomans are not always 'regular' when in a new environment...animals are no different.
I must say though...I wouldn't put a litter tray in any reception room-or anywhere food may be taken...even temporarily. My first reaction was eeeuuww.... :-(
It might be also the type of litter you are using - cats are fussy creatures and maybe a change of litter will do the trick. However, be patient. And congratulations on your kitten.
Quick tip. I use litter pearls. No odour at all. They absorb the moisture. All you have to do is remove the poo and stir the cat litter round to obtain the best absorption of wee. And we have a litter tray with a roof. You don't have to change the litter very often, about every three to four weeks (and that is with an indoor cat). It's initially expensive but because it lasts so long it works out cheaper.

To answer your question. Give her time. Our litter tray is tucked behind the stairs in the dining room. If we have visitors I remove the litter tray. But it never, ever smells with Litter Pearls.

I think I may have to try the Litter pearls. Caspar's tray is in the bathroom at the top of the stairs, and today I walked in from outside-only to have my nostrils assaulted by whiffs....

Then there is the problem of him 'missing' the tray...maybe he's just being a boy ;-0

Thanks, I'll try the litter pearls. You're right Pastafreak, it's certainly not ideal to have it in the lounge but as it was her first night I had to keep it in there as she was too scared to leave the room at first. I have now put it in the Dining room near the back door.
