What a tragic waste of life, and surely mass murder on this scale can't be blamed on the West?

Suicide bombers target crowded places such as markets and wedding gatherings. There have been several instances were wedding gathering have been hit by friendly fire from aircraft that are supposed to be on their side. But the two are completely different, one is deliberate killing and the other an accident cause by negligence.

One the whole, Afghanistan is a better place now than it was under the Taliban for most Afghans. Not sure that was our mission 11 years ago, or whether our sacrifices have been worth it, but that is the situation.
I wonder if the ordinary Afghani thinks that it's a better place now.
I am not sure who it is that you think would be blaming this event on the West, AoG?

Just reconfirms that for some, life is cheap, memories long, and political enemies willing to do more than just debate....
I don't blame it on the west. Who does?
Some on here have commented on a number of occasions about our involvement, past and present, having caused more problems for the people of the country. Notably Afghanistan, seeing as we have been there before, as had the Russians, and no one has come out with any credibility, only casualties on all sides.
Its a bit ironic that the security at home has risen in equal proportion to our soldiers safety in Afghanistan. Maybe its because we get more immigrants from Afghanistan and a fair proportion of those wish us harm.

When we leave in 2014 events like these will be reported less by the media
"One the whole, Afghanistan is a better place now than it was under the Taliban"

youre cannot be serious, surely.

you think the Taliban arent running things outside of Kharzis palace, who do you think really controls the villages and towns outside of Kabul then.

We need to get out of that schitehole pronto and leave them to their own devices
Don't think there is any hope for democracy in Afghanistan, the troops will leave, it will revert back to how it was, and become part of the Islamic Caliphate that will sweep across the middle east. IMO

Given what the Taliban are doing now, whilst we are there, I don't think it will take long to revert to the way it was when we pull out, so no, not a lot of hope for the future imo.
LOL Craig. Only hope if all this takes place it is not in my lifetime.
Bring our boy's ( and girls ) home, and let the Afghan's get on with killing each other.
I feel sorry the majority of folk in Afghanistan, i suspect most do not want any part of the Taliban, or their hateful regime, and what passes for politicians, governments, seem to do little or no good whatsoever.
I blame it on the West.

Either you believe the whole world must be connected and break down borders and tariffs or you dont. If you want the free movement of materials and labour you will need to put "policing operations" into areas that do not play by your rules.

If you want sustainable development and people to have the dignity of their own beliefs and cultures you will oppose globalisation and leave the Afghans alone.
