I was age 10 and at school, I remember going to an old aunts south of the river and the olympic village was there and seeing all the athletes strolling around and trying to work out who was who with my dad.
I can remember Jim Peters running around our streets at night for training sessions also at an althetic track near by, after he so tragically lost the marathon race he continued training and everyone came out of their houses and clapped and cheered as he went past, he was crying.
After the olympics we were all marched in a crocodile from school to town to see the film of the Olympics at the local Odeon and marched back again about 2 miles each way, can you imagine the kids of today doing that ? the little darlings would have to have a bus laid on.
