Has anyone ever sold a laptop (or mobile) to one of these "we buy for cash" places, and found that when the company receive it, they offer you far less than they did originally?

The companies that offer to buy your car often work like that.

Offer a good price over the phone but when their valuer sees the car they will offer less.

better off selling it privately on ebay or similar, these companies will always find a reason to reduce the price, they are legal rip-off merchants.

once they have the item they know most people will just let them keep it and take whatever is offered.
