los angeles had a flying man...barcelona had flying arrows landing in the cauldron to light the flame..what have we got???..geese and shire horses parading around...oh well we can but hope its a good ceremony...cant we???
I love our history. I'm very patriotic. However, this is an Olympic opening ceremony and not a history lesson to the rest of the world. It should be happy and spectacular.
so you're knocking being proud of our history, our nhs (especially gosh), our music, our film, our humour, our diversity..............stop whingeing and enjoy, The cost is a quarter of what other nations have wasted, thousands of volunteers and a great soundtrack
I rather liked most of it, it was quite good fun to watch. No hitches either except Paul McCartney's start to Hey Jude but he covered it up well. Whether the rest of the world understood the British quirkiness it is another matter! The only thing that really irritated us were the announcements in French before we knew what they were talking about - yes I know the reason why, but we are the host nation and should have known what was going on first, bet the French were loving it! We should ne proud of tonight, wonder what the closing ceremony will be like? Felt very sorry for the Queen sitting all that time through it (at her age!) just to say one sentence to open the games - just wish she had smiled!
What a load of negative and puerile comments have been made on here about what I thought was a fantastic ceremony. The only boring part was the entry of all the competitors because it went on for so long.
How anyone can say that the making of the five rings, the Queen's first acting role, the GOSH display and finally the lighting of the Flame was boring is beyond me.
The na na nas went on a bit too long at the end though.
